witches y'all!

Dozens of "witches" executed in a Scottish town more than 400 years ago are to be pardoned to mark Halloween.

Prestonpans, in East Lothian, will grant the pardons under ancient feudal powers which are about to disappear.

More than 3,500 Scots, mainly women, were executed during the Reformation, for crimes such as owning a black cat and brewing up home-made remedies.

...

One of the area's most notorious episodes was the North Berwick witch-hunt in which Agnes Sampson confessed under torture to leading a coven responsible for a storm allegedly intended to sink King James VI's ship as he returned from Denmark with his fiancée, Anne.

Test tube brain flies plane

This is freakin' crazy fo sho...

Oct. 22, 2004 — A University of Florida scientist has created a living "brain" of cultured rat cells that now controls an F-22 fighter jet flight simulator.
..
For the recent project, Thomas DeMarse, a University of Florida professor of biomedical engineering, placed an electrode grid at the bottom of a glass dish and then covered the grid with rat neurons. The cells initially resembled individual grains of sand in liquid, but they soon extended microscopic lines toward each other, gradually forming a neural network — a brain — that DeMarse says is a "living computational device."

The brain then communicates with the flight simulator through a desktop computer.

The brain can learn, just as a human brain learns, he said. When the system is first engaged, the neurons don't know how to control the airplane; they don't have any experience.

But, he said, "Over time, these stimulations modify the network's response such that the neurons slowly (over the course of 15 minutes) learn to control the aircraft. The end result is a neural network that can fly the plane to produce relatively stable straight and level flight."

At present, the brain can control the pitch and roll of the F-22 in various virtual weather conditions, ranging from hurricane-force winds to clear blue skies.

Seriously... wtf tbh...

We had about an hour or two downtime becuase bind was being gay.
Back up now though! emoticon

We're back on 100mbps again, 10mbps with unitedcolo/sago wasn't amazing. Should have more storage here soon too, thanks to one-off payment hdds.

The page should be loading a bit quicker too, since we're on a 2400+ instead of a 2GHz Celeron pos.

Server admins are now me and James emoticon

Man erects 10ft origami penis
Posted by James (2 Comments) Wed Oct 27th '04 01:21:20 PM
Pornogamist Nick Robinson - practitioner of saucy paper-folding and author of new guide Adult Origami - has wowed Londoners by pulling off the world's biggest paper penis outside the city's London Assembly building.

Robinson took half-an-hour to erect the 10ft phallus, after which he delighted tourists and locals alike by waving it about from the Assembly's gallery as a stunt to promote his book. Rather appropriately, the London Assembly is known to some as the "Glass Bollock" in recognition to its ground-breaking testicular form. London Mayor Ken Livingstone's reaction to his authority's newest member is not known.
