Adolf Hitler spent years dodging taxes, accumulating enormous debts as he led his Nazi party to power, a German tax expert has revealed. He owed the authorities 405,500 Reichsmarks (6m euros; £4m in today's money) by 1934, when as German chancellor his debts were forgiven. A retired Bavarian notary, Klaus-Dieter Dubon, found Hitler's tax secrets in papers from the Bavarian State Archive. Mr Dubon told Reuters that Hitler had earned 1.2m Reichsmarks in 1933 from sales of his book Mein Kampf - "a huge income, when you consider teachers then had annual salaries of 4,800 marks". But he failed to pay tax on 600,000 Reichsmarks of that income, the researcher found. By 1945 Hitler had made 7.6m Reichsmarks out of Mein Kampf, without paying any tax. |

A 22-year-old gamer has spent $26,500 (£13,700) on an island that exists only in a computer role-playing game (RPG). The Australian gamer, known only by his gaming moniker Deathifier, bought the island in an online auction. The land exists within the game Project Entropia, an RPG which allows thousands of players to interact with each other. The virtual island includes a gigantic abandoned castle and beautiful beaches which are described as ripe for developing beachfront property. Deathifier will make money from his investment as he is able to tax other gamers who come to his virtual land to hunt or mine for gold. He has also begun to sell plots to people who wish to build virtual homes. |

| Samsung shows 2.5m monster monitor | |

Samsung has unveiled what's possibly the world's largest plasma monitor screen - a monster 255cm (102in) high density panel codenamed 'Atlas'. The resolution is a mere 1920 x 1080, little bigger than most larger PC monitors, but with a contrast ration of 2000:1 and a 1000 candlepower per square metre brightness rating, the giant screen should leave viewers feeling sufficiently in among the action. Indeed, the whole thin measures roughly 2.2 x 1.3m, so you need a gargantuan living room to put it in. An equally colossal wallet would come in handy too: Samsung didn't reveal a price - availability is too far off - but it's likely to be substantial. Samsung did say it will be ramping production between January and June 2005. The new screen comes almost a year after Samsung showed off its 200cm (80in) plasma display panel all i have to say is: wow |

It's like speed but replacing a bomb and Keanu Reeves with Russians carrying Hunting Rifles! About 26 passengers are being held hostage at gunpoint on a bus in the Greek capital Athens. Armed officers have surrounded the vehicle, which was hijacked just before dawn on its route from the town of Marathon into central Athens. The driver of the bus escaped. The head of the bus company said the hijackers wanted to be taken to Athens airport. ![]() The bus was seized at about 0600 (0400 GMT). Besides the driver, the ticket inspector and a passenger also managed to get away, reports said. The gunmen are said to be carrying hunting rifles or shotguns. A police official quoted anonymously by the AFP news agency said they were Russian, and wanted to be flown to Russia. Earlier police had suggested they were Albanian. The head of the bus company told an Athens radio station that the men had demanded a driver to replace the one that escaped. Dude, just buy a ticket next time. |
