| RUMOUR: iPod mini moves to color screen with pending update | |
| Posted by James (2 Comments) | Mon Feb 21st '05 06:12:11 PM |
Within the next two weeks Apple will announce an updated iPod mini with a color screen and higher capacity hard drive, Think Secret has learned. Highly reliable sources have confirmed that the next iPod mini will gain a full-color active-matrix TFT screen while the form factor will remain largely unchanged. The color screen will be able to display colors clearly and brightly regardless of ambient lighting, even outdoors in direct sunlight. The new screen will be about the same size as the current iPod mini display and will sport a 176x132 resolution. Apple's move to a color screen on the iPod mini is part of the company's shift away from monochrome displays, sources said. Standard iPods will also gain color screens across the board with the next update later this year. The move toward color screens is part of an effort by Apple to keep its industry-leading iPod looking new and fresh. |

| Paris Hilton's sidekick hacked | |
| Posted by James (4 Comments) | Mon Feb 21st '05 01:10:35 PM |
Paris Hilton's address book, famously kept on a T-Mobile Sidekick, has been popping up all over the internet after someone managed to figure out her password. The Drudge Report says that it has confirmed the authenticity of many of the numbers, presumably a polite way of saying they've been crank calling Anna Kournikova and Lindsay Lohan all weekend. The FBI has reportedly opened an investigation. Files exposed to the world also include Paris' travel habits, airline and hotel preferences, along with her private notes. The information landed online just days after hacker Nicolas Jacobsen pled guilty to a single charge of intentionally accessing a protected computer and recklessly causing damage. Jacobsen was arrested by US authorities last October, but had had access to T-Mobile's servers for more than a year. He reportedly amused himself by accessing US Secret Service email, and raiding other Sidekick users' accounts. William Genovese, a friend of Jacobsen's in the hacker community, told Security Focus that Jacobsen sent him pictures of celebrities, purportedly snapped with their camera phones. Genovese faces unrelated charges for allegedly selling leaked Microsoft source code. While Paris must by now be used to being overexposed online, many of the people in her little black book were less than pleased with the leak. According to the Drudge Report, one starlet said "I gave her my number after we met in Miami, I did not know she f**king kept it on her cellphone!" Reality TV star Victoria Gotti told New York Daily News that she had received over 100 phone calls in two hours. "It's driving me insane," she said. ® View: HiltonHacked.com |

| NASA Sets Space Shuttle Launch for May 15 | |

![]() NASA has set May 15 as the launch date for the first shuttle mission since the Columbia accident two years ago, the agency's associate administrator for space operations said on Friday. The challenge right now is closure of an awful lot of paper. The vehicle can't launch until all the paperwork is done," Bill Readdy said during a teleconference with reporters. A special panel overseeing NASA's implementation of the accident board's findings said on Thursday that NASA fulfilled seven recommendations fully and one conditionally. May 15 was chosen as the launch date for Discovery and its seven-member crew because of lighting conditions and thermal issues related to the shuttle's launch and docking at the International Space Station (news - web sites), they said. NASA managers also set July 12 as the date for the second shuttle mission this year. However, in case of an emergency aboard Discovery, a second ship could be ready to be launched on a rescue mission as early as June 14, Readdy said. As part of the safety upgrades implemented after the Columbia disaster, NASA wants to be able to shelter astronauts aboard the space station if their ship is too damaged to return to Earth. Extra supplies will be flown to the space station on Feb. 28. It's about time they resumed shuttle missions. I realize that they had to find out what went wrong last time, but i think its a bit silly that they took this long to get back down to business. Now then, i wonder how research on those warp engines is going...... |
