The best-known goat in Sudan has died months after being "married" to a man in the South Sudan capital, Juba, the BBC has learned.

Local elders ordered a man found having sex with the goat, called Rose, to pay a dowry and "marry" her last February.

"The idea was to publicly embarrass the man," says Tom Rhodes, editor of the Juba Post, which first ran the story.

The BBC's story of the "wedding" caught the public imagination and became one of the best read internet stories.

Rose had a male kid - "not a human one" - Mr Rhodes said, hastily.

Charles Tombe said he was drunk at the time but has since refused to comment on the issue. The kid is owned by Mr Tombe.

Anyone want some kryptonite?

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42835000/jpg/_42835709_kryp_nhm_203b.jpgKryptonite is no longer just the stuff of fiction feared by caped superheroes.

A new mineral matching its unique chemistry - as described in the film Superman Returns - has been identified in a mine in Serbia.

The real mineral is white and harmless, says Dr Chris Stanley, a mineralogist at London's Natural History Museum.

"I'm afraid it's not green and it doesn't glow either - although it will react to ultraviolet light by fluorescing a pinkish-orange,"

"Towards the end of my research I searched the web using the mineral's chemical formula - sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide - and was amazed to discover that same scientific name, written on a case of rock containing kryptonite stolen by Lex Luther from a museum in the film Superman Returns." he told BBC News.

The mineral cannot be called kryptonite under international nomenclature rules because it has nothing to do with krypton - a real element in the Periodic Table that takes the form of a gas. Instead, it will be formally named Jadarite when it is described in the European Journal of Mineralogy later this year.

Jadar is the name of the place where the Serbian mine is located.

EMI tracks on iTunes to lose DRM
Posted by donkey (2 Comments) Mon Apr 2nd '07 10:10:21 PM
EMI is taking software locks off some of its digital music songs sold via download sites.

The "premium" versions of EMI tracks will lack the digital locks common to songs available via many online sites

Apple's iTunes store will start selling the EMI tracks in the "premium" format in May.

EMI said every song in its catalogue will be available in the "premium" format. It said the tracks without locks will cost more and be of higher quality than those it offers now.

The higher price will apply only to single tracks that customers download. On iTunes EMI tracks free of digital rights management (DRM) software will cost $1.29 (99p).

Itunes users will be able to upgrade previously purchased EMI songs and albums for 30 cents (15p) a track. The "premium" tracks will be twice the sound quality of currently available EMI tracks.
