Half-Life fanatic Paul Marino has taken the genre to the next level with his new music video, filmed entirely in the Source Engine and set to popular rocksters Breaking Benjamin. Using FacePoser software, the G-Man becomes the lead singer, emoting and lip-syncing unbelievably. As the genre continues to progress and gain more exposure as a mainstream film-making technique, this will surely be looked back on as a seminal work http://www.machinima.org/paul_blog/2005/03/machinima-wiki-and-finally-music-video.html |

Eight US newspapers and the Associated Press agency have thrown their support behind three bloggers sued by Apple. In March, Apple won the right to see the bloggers' e-mail records to find out who leaked information on upcoming products to them, which they published. The news organisations have now filed a court brief which says they should be allowed to protect their sources. If not, they said, it could make journalists wary of publishing stories which are in the public interest. Dave Tomlin, assistant general counsel for the AP news agency, said the case had potential implications journalists of all kinds. |

| Sony patents theoretical mind interface device | |

ENTERTAINMENT megalith Sony has patented a cunning idea to transmit data directly into the brain. The long term goal, which we might add is only based on a theory, should enable punters to see movies and play video games in which they smell, taste and perhaps even feel things. If Sony manages to build its "better than life" machine, it will be the first step towards a "real-life Matrix", New Scientist gushes. Sony's patent avoids using brain implants or other surgery. Instead it will fire pulses of ultrasound at the brain to modify the firing patterns of neurons in targeted parts of the brain. This will create "sensory experiences" ranging from moving images to tastes and sounds. Of course we are not sure what the effect of pounding the brain with ultrasound will be. We are also not sure if it is desirable to turn your brain over to Japanese games developers and allow them to reprogram it. “All your bases are belong to usâ€, springs to mind More: http://www.newscientist.com/channel/info-tech/mg18624944.600 |

| The Incredible Popeman | |

![]() Like any self-respecting superhero, the Incredible Popeman has a battery of special equipment. Along with his yellow cape and green chastity pants, the muscular super-pontiff wields a faith staff with a cross on top and carries holy water and communion wine. In the comic book, the pope dies and is reborn with superpowers beyond the infallibility Catholic doctrine gave him on Earth. Leon said he was saddened by the death Saturday of John Paul II, whom he admired. The artist worried some people might be offended by such a revered figure’s becoming a comic book hero, but said the reception so far has been good. |
