Hitachi works on five terabyte hard drive
Posted by play_boy_2000 (4 Comments) Tue Dec 20th '05 03:12:18 AM
http://upload.iamnotasalmon.com/i/default/hard_drive1.pngA report in the Nikkei Business Daily said that Hitachi GST is developing a five terabyte 3.5-inch hard drive aimed at the PC market.

But Santa Claus and his reindeer are not about to drop it into your Christmas stocking any time soon. The newspaper said that Hitachi is aiming to bring it to market by 2010.

There are some problems and one of those is that to get to one terabit per square inch of platter, each sector has got to me smaller than 20 nanometres.

The article said Hitachi GST - which took over IBM's hard drive business - will work with Hitachi Maxwell to develop the drive.

Billy Bob thornton is not thought to have been amongst the real bad santas

A gang of "Santas" cut a trail of havoc across New Zealand's biggest city in what was meant to be a protest against the commercialisation of Christmas.

About 40 men in ill-fitting Father Christmas costumes ran around Auckland vandalising or stealing property, and throwing bottles, police say.

Two security guards were injured and three of the men were arrested.

A police spokesman described it as "fairly average behaviour" from "an organised group of idiots".

The gang first drew attention when they appeared on a motorway bridge on Saturday afternoon to urinate on passing cars and smash beer bottles, police said.

They then kicked over litter bins in a public park, hurled bottles and sprayed graffiti on office buildings.

Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod plays video, changing the way you experience your music and more. Again. In lighter, thinner 30GB and 60GB models starting at $299, the new iPod is music to your eyes.

...

The new iPod boasts up to 20 hours of battery life(5), five hours more than before. Plus, you get a bigger display and one more iPod color — sleek black. But here’s the kicker: At under half an inch thin, the new 30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less room than the original iPod. Even the new 60GB model is 10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 20GB iPod. More features in less space? Sounds like iPod.

NTL seals Telewest takeover
Posted by drunken Student (5 Comments) Mon Oct 3rd '05 12:11:09 PM
Britain's biggest cable company NTL is to take over rival operator Telewest for about $6bn (£3.4bn)

The deal will create the UK's dominant cable TV company, enabling it to compete more effectively with market leading pay-TV broadcaster BSkyB.

Analysts have been expecting a tie-up between NTL and Telewest for some time.

Both companies are recovering from a downturn, which saw NTL emerge from bankruptcy protection in 2003 and Telewest undergo restructuring.

Although NTL and Telewest's operations are focused in the UK, shares in both companies are traded in New York.

...

do you think NTL will halt the speed bumps so that they have across the board continuity, or will they bump up existing NTL cable lines?
