Scientists are hard at work so you can use a modified ink-jet printer to make yourself some bacon. Tissue engineers from the Medical University of South Carolina, and Clemson University, have been printing biomaterials with modified ink-jet printers. The cartridges are filled with suspensions of living cells then the software that controls the characteristics of the ink does the rest. If ink jet cartridges are expensive now wait until you have to replace a hickory smoked bacon flavor cartridge.![]() Now if they'll just hurry up and in invent bread plotters and ketchup burners we're set. |

![]() The U.S. Navy boarded an apparent pirate ship in the Indian Ocean and detained 26 men for questioning, the Navy said Sunday. The 16 Indians and 10 Somali men were aboard a traditional dhow that was chased and seized Saturday by the U.S. guided missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill, said Lt. Leslie Hull-Ryde of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain. The dhow stopped fleeing after the Churchill twice fired warning shots during the chase, which ended 54 miles off the coast of Somalia, the Navy said. U.S. sailors boarded the dhow and seized a cache of small arms. The dhow's crew and passengers were being questioned Sunday aboard the Churchill to determine ![]() which were pirates and which were legitimate crew members, Hull-Ryde said. Sailors aboard the dhow told Navy investigators that pirates hijacked the vessel six days ago near Mogadishu and thereafter used it to stage pirate attacks on merchant ships Note: Jack Sparrow, pictured at right, was thought not to have been on board |

| 3DMark06 Available Today | |

![]() IT'S BEEN a while since we've seen a new 3Dmark. Dell loves it, it can give you a single performance number that doesn't mean anything in the real world but still people really do care about the 3Dmark05 score. If you can get 10,000 in 3Dmark05 with default settings, that means that you have a top graphic card, if you can get more than that you have at least two cards using SLI or Crossfire. That number is just a matter of pride, it is a hall of fame. The new benchmark has been distributed and all reviewers are waiting is for the NDA kill signal to go live with the first scores. It is a massive file, over 500 megabytes, and it's probably going to kill most of the servers tomorrow. I can see a lot of bandwidth falling away in the next few days. We saw some pictures and it looks really nice and of course we will use it as we kind of like this crazy number madness. Once we get our hands on it we will let you know how it will run on some of the cards we have in the lab. Available for download here |

| Mac users are 'too smug' | |
| Posted by mrplow (3 Comments) | Wed Jan 18th '06 03:14:51 AM |
![]() If the BBC sez it, it's true. These days Apple users are almost unbearably smug when the subject turns to malware. I was invited to appear on Radio Four's You and Yours this week to talk about viruses and other malware and our focus was on issues with Windows since it is the most commonly used operating system. After the show we got dozens of e-mails from complacent Mac users pointing out that they were safe and suggesting that people simply abandon Windows if they want to be secure. Mac OS may not have the gaping holes that let viruses spread, but worms, spyware and even keyloggers are out there. They can't spread as easily, and most would only be installed by a careless user clicking "Accept" on a dodgy install dialog, but the regular stream of security fixes from Apple's software update service makes it clear that there are real dangers. This really isn't news. But I like the word "smug". ![]() |
