You probably heard a while back I was getting rid of the server and moving to new hosting, well we're up on Dreamhost atm (2TB/mo transfer, 200GB disk space). With the MySQL being hosted elsewhere and being accessed via TCP/IP with significantly more latency, my shitty ill-fix-it-later coding on some pages has made certain parts of the site slow. Especially the forums.. ![]() The main issue was with the new post checker sidebar item. This has been temporarily moved, you'll need to hit the forum link to see new posts, which shouldn't be too much of an issue, but hey. If there are any bugs in the transition - PLEASE report them in news comments for this post. I'll be tweaking some code at random points in the next few weeks trying to get the site a bit quicker. Mostly removing my hilariously awful queries within for-loops. FRIENDLY REMINDER TO THOSE WHO STILL HAVE MAIL / FILES ON MY OLD SERVER - GET THEM THE FUCK OFF IMMEDIATELY, THE SERVER IS GOING DOWN SOONISH.![]() If you have troubles connecting, try the hostname 'ofah.biz'. If you are still unable to access your files, email me asap at lonedawg@poopsockery.org. |

The server that hosts Salmon's services is going down in the next week or two. Basically, I can't afford it. I'm cutting down all of my outgoings to see if it's possible to do my last year at University without a job. This will greatly help my chances of getting a 2-1 or above. Salmon, Axiom Knights and my personal domains will be moved over to a server hosted by James and will provide basic web and email services. Additional services that were previously available will no longer running. This includes the ventrilo server and backup ftp. The following domains are hosted and will be affected by this change. alternative-paintball.com and redirection domains -> Seek alternative hosting axiomknights.com -> Rehosted on tasty error203.com -> Seek alternative hosting freakingawesome.biz -> Seek alternative hosting iamnotasalmon.com -> Rehosted on tasty madhamster.org -> Rehosted on tasty pish.biz -> Rehosted on tasty stupidcunt.biz -> Rehosted on tasty timmeh.co.uk -> Seek alternative hosting vypersite.com -> Seek alternative hosting I have not included domains which are no longer pointed at the server, but if you want the files that were previously hosted here, download them now. Any domain not listed will not be transfered to the new server. Mail accounts for all domains that are being carried over to the new server will remain intact, however you will probably lose the email stored in these accounts, please back it up now. These changes haven't been given an exact date, but when a date is reached, it will be posted here. Stay tuned for further information. |

Well, it's official, we are all now officially NTL Inc., after (the old) NTL Incorporated became NTL Holdings, Telewest then became NTL Inc., and merged with NTL holdings to create NTL Inc.Confusing? Yes. NTL Incorporated (or 'ntl:telewest' as its more commonly known for now) is issuing this advice: What have you announced today? ntl and Telewest announced today the completion of their merger, creating the UK's largest consumer broadband company and leading triple play service provider. Today's merger represents great news for customers. It creates a new force in the communications market, with the scale and resources to fully exploit the unique capabilities of cable. Why have you done this? We will be better positioned to meet the future needs of our customers. It'll mean that we can provide exciting new services to cable customers. How will this benefit me? We are better positioned to meet your future needs as a cable customer. The new company will provide exciting new services to customers. We are also maintaining the ongoing improvements to existing products and customer services. How will this affect me? Today it's business as usual. There's no change to your services, telephone number, email address, contracts, prices or customer service contacts as a result of the completion of the merger. However it may speed up the development of new services for you to enjoy such as higher speed broadband, greater choice of TV and lower cost telephone services. It is very good news for cable customers. What happens next? We are committed to ensuring that customers get maximum benefit from the merger, but this will not be achieved overnight. Completion marks the start of a wide-ranging integration process. We will communicate frequently and openly during the process. Surely my services are going to change? Today it's business as usual and there's no change to your services, contracts, prices or customer service contacts as a result of the completion of the merger. However, we will go through a process of integrating the businesses, based on taking forward the best of both. As decisions are made and changes take place, we will ensure that information is communicated to you as early as is possible. More questions are answered here: http://www.by-users.co.uk/forums/?board=news&action=display&num=1141520026 Official NTL page: http://www.ntl.com/mediacentre/ntltelewest/ -Ed: I fear this can only mean bad things. It appears NTL eventually wants to merge service packages. Depending on if NTL change their own services, this may involve an introduction of caps to blueyonder users, which is certainly not good. In other reports, blueyonder topped some recent ISP awards whereas NTL came *last*. *ahem*. |
